Swim Teams Win Season Opener at William Paterson

The men's and women's swimming teams each recorded team victories in their season opener against the Pioneers of William Paterson University on Friday night.  

 

Team captains Kira Chen, Joyce Wong and Kaetlyn Chavez teamed up with freshman Allyse Alexander to win the first event of the night, the 200 yard medley relay.  

 

Freshman Allyse Alexander proceeded to win the 200 yard freestyle. She concluded her swims with a victory in the 100 yard butterfly, breaking both the freshman and school record.  

 

Kira Chen recorded victories in the 200 yard individual medley and the 100 yard backstroke.  

 

Kaetlyn Chavez outswam her opponent in the 100 yard freestyle and placed 2nd in the 1,000 yard free.  

 

Sophia Kouchtaf made her college debut by winning the 1,000 Yard Freestyle followed by a 2nd place finish in the 100 yard butterfly and finishing off the night with a win in the 500 yard Free.  

 

Joyce Wong placed 1st in the 100 yard breaststroke. 

 

The women finished off the evening with a win in the 200 Yard freestyle relay with Salma Jaramillo, Melissa Yiu, Kristen Zhou and Valery Jurado.  

 

The men started off the night with a victory in the 200 yard medley relay with Youssef Elkhouly, Daniel Vasilkoff, Michael Guzman and Eli Meron.  

 

Captains Youssef Elkhouly and Daniel Vasilkoff proceeded to win their individual events – Youssef in the 50 yard free & the 100 yard backstroke and Daniel in the 200 yard individual medley & the 100 yard breaststroke.  

 

Michael Guzman placed 1st in the 100 yard butterfly and 2nd in the 200 yard individual medley. 

 

Eli Meron continued to win the 100 yard freestyle.  

 

Bennett Maczka recorded a 1st place finish in the 200 yard freestyle. He also won the 500 yard freestyle breaking the 13-year old school record.  

 

Freshman Ramiel Fayngersh and sophomore Leonardo Valdivia finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 1,000 yard freestyle.  

 

Ramiel Fayngersh also won his first individual event of his collegiate swimming career in the 500 yard freestyle.  

 

The men concluded the meet winning the 200 yard freestyle relay with Ethan Abramov, Eli Meron, Bennett Maczka and Ramiel Fayngersh.
