The men's and women's swimming teams competed this weekend at the ECAC Winter Finals at the Nassau County Aquatic Center on Long Island.

The Bearcats held their own against a field of mostly Division I competition from the Northeast.

The Bearcats broke various school and CUNYAC records this weekend, including qualifying for the ECAC Open Postseason Finals in February.

HIGHLIGHTS

*Bennett Maczka broke the school record in the 50 free with a time of 21.10.

*The men's 200 yard freestyle team of Bennett Maczka, Peter Gavroff, Daniel Vasilkoff, and Youssef Elkhouly broke the school and CUNYAC record with a time of 1:24.30.

*The men's 400 yard medley relay team of Youssef Elkhouly, Daniel Vasilkoff, Michael Guzman, and Bennett Maczka broke the CUNYAC record with a time of 3:30.56.

*The women's 200 yard medley relay team of Kira Chen, Joyce Wong, Allyse Alexander and Kaetlyn Chavez qualified for the ECAC Open with a time of 1:54.32.

*The men had two relay teams qualify for the ECAC Open in the 200 yard medley behind the efforts of Youssef Elkhouly, Daniel Vasilkoff, Michael Guzman, and Gary Danilyan (1:37.28) and Ethan Abramov, Peter Gavroff, Eli Meron, and Ramiel Fayngersh (1:37.13).

*The 800 yard free relay team of Ramiel Fayngersh, Bennett Maczka, Daniel Vasilkoff, and Youssef Elkhouly broke the school and CUNYAC record with a time of 7:04.73. They also qualified for the ECAC Open.

*Rookie Allyse Alexander had a big weekend at the regional meet breaking both the school and freshman record in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.22) and 200 yard butterfly (2:16.39) events.

*Ramiel Fayngersh broke two freshman records - the 100 yard (58.12) and 200 yard (2:12.66) breaststroke events.

*Bennett Maczka also broke the CUNYAC and school record in the 100 yard (45.47) and 200 yard (1:40.71) freestyle events.   

*Ramiel Fayngersh, Bennett Maczka, Daniel Vasilkoff, and Youssef Elkhouly capped off a great weekend by finishing seventh in the 400 yard free relay (3:07.93) that broke the CUNYAC and school record, while also qualifying for the postseason ECAC Open in the event in February.
