Men's Basketball Now 9-1 in CUNYAC, Defeat John Jay (99-86)

The men's basketball team broke open a tight contest in the second half to record a 99-86 victory at John Jay College on Tuesday night.

The two teams shot well in the first half (B: 51%, J: 55%) with the visiting Bearcats leading by a narrow margin of 47-45 at halftime.

They turned up the defense in the second half limiting the Bloodhounds to 38 percent shooting and forcing 10 turnovers.

The offense also took over turning a lead of 58-54 quickly into a 70-54 lead by scoring 12 straight points to put the game out of reach.

They fell one point short of scoring 100 points for the second time this season.

Five players scored in double-figures led by Devin Nicholson with 29 points shooting 8-of-10 from the field, 3-of-4 from three, and 10-of-11 from the free throw line. His brother Gerard also came up big with 18 points and eight assists.

Emil Purisic scored 14 points (6-of-7 fg), while Jehmehl Fair (9 rebounds) and Mohamed Gueye finished with 10 points each in the road victory that puts the team at 9-1 in the CUNYAC standings (first place).

Jordan Evelyn led the Bloodhounds with 33 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
