FRIDAY'S DAY 1 RESULTS

BRONX, N.Y. (Feb. 2, 2024) –
Baruch College raced out to a commanding lead on the opening day of the 2024 CUNYAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championship at Lehman's APEX Center.

The Bearcats, the five-time defending conference champions, lead after one day of competition with 105 points. Lehman is second with 53 points, followed by Brooklyn (36) and York (4).

Baruch accounted for four new conference championship records, led by the performance of Youssef Elkhouly. The Bearcats first record-smashing effort came in the very first event of the afternoon, when a team of Elkhouly, Ramiel Fayngersh, Daniel Vasilkoff and Bennett Maczka posted a time of 1:24.63 in the 200-yard freestyle relay, beating the previous best of 1:27.70 set by Baruch in 2022.

In the 500-yard freestyle, Maczka claimed gold for the Bearcats while setting a new championship record, touching the wall in 4:42.86, smashing the previous standard of 4:49.17 set by Staten Island's Vlad Romanov in 2012. Maczka's performance was also the fastest time in the history of the CUNY Athletic Conference, smashing the previous record of 4:45.52 set by Lehman's Jason Bogle 32 years ago in 1992.

Elkhouly broke his own meet record in the 50-yard freestyle, winning the race in 20.94, surpassing his previous mark of 21.27 at last season's championship. Elkhouly's time is also tied for the fastest performance in the event in CUNYAC history as well as tying the regular season record.

Baruch's final record-setting performance of the day came in the 400-yard medley relay, when the team of Elkhouly, Vasilkoff, Maczka and Michael Guzman posted a time of 3:29.64, surpassing the previous best of 3:32.92 set by Staten Island in 2012.

In addition, Fayngersh was crowned conference champion in the 200-yard I.M., finishing the race in 1:59.46.
