Jose Torres

Jose Torres is one of the most accomplished individuals in Baruch baseball history and is in his 18th season as Head Coach.

He coached the Bearcats to the 2022 CUNYAC Championship for the second straight season and was named Conference Coach of the Year for the third time in his career.

In 2019, he also managed the Bearcats to the CUNYAC & NAC Championship, and the team's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. For his efforts, he was named CUNYAC Coach of the Year.

He has also previously led them to CUNYAC Championships in 2009 and 2012, while recording runner up finishes in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

He coached the team to back-to-back 20 wins season during 2012 and 2013.  

Torres pitched professionally in the minors for teams within the Kansas City Royals (Butte, Montana) and Los Angeles Dodgers (Bakersfield and San Antonio) farm system.

With the Kansas City Royals in Montana, he was named a Pioneer League All-Star Pitcher. He was later named the July 1983 Organizational Player of the Month, posting a 6-0 record with a 0.33 ERA with 27 consecutive shutout innings.

He also had a stint with the Detroit Tigers during spring training 1994. As a result, Jose brings a wealth of experience to his position as leader of the baseball program.

The Cardinal Hayes High School product is a 1977 Catholic High School Athletic Association and New York Daily News First Team Selection.

He played for Baruch College as an undergraduate student.

In addition to his duties as baseball coach, he also helps supervise the athletic facilities.
