Men's Basketball Falls to Hartford

The men's basketball team lost their season-opener 66-62 to the Hawks from the University of Hartford on Friday night in Hartford, Connecticut.  

The contest went down to the wire as the two teams were tied at 62 with 3:42 left, but the former Division I program from the America East Conference scored the final four points for their first victory on their home court as a Division III program.

The visiting Bearcats trailed by 12 points (52-40) with 15:18 remaining but battled back to force ties on four different occasions in the final six minutes until the Hawks ended the game with the final four points.

The Bearcats shot 43.1% to stay close but the Hawks shot 50% and won the battle of the boards with a 37-25 advantage.

Devin Nicholson was tops with 22 points, while Akil Vaughn had eight points off the bench.

Hartford, who now play in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), had three players in double-figure scoring led by Trayon Rumley with 17 points.
