Men's Basketball Uses Big Second Half Rally to Defeat York on Bearcats Appreciation Night

The men's basketball team came back to defeat the Cardinals of York College, 85-68, on Bearcats Appreciation Night in the ARC Arena.

The game was a tale of two stories.

The visiting Cardinals took control early building up a 38-33 lead at the break shooting 47 percent (15-for-32 fg), while the Bearcats struggled at 34 percent (12-for-35).

The Bearcats came out much stronger in the second half and managed to take back the lead turning a narrow 51-50 advantage into a 72-55 lead on a game-busting 21-6 run. Sayeed Osorio had another big six-man effort off the bench scoring 10 of the 21 points in that run that helped wore down the Cardinals.

The Bearcats in that second half shot 54 percent (20-for-37 fg) and used solid defense to keep York shooting only 35 percent (12-for-34 fg) for the CUNYAC home win that clinches a bye into the semifinal round of the CUNYAC Championship Tournament later this month.

The bench was a factor again scoring 38 total points behind players such as Osorio (career-high 22 points), Mohamed Gueye (10 points), and Akil Vaughn (six points, 10 rebounds).

Devin Nicholson scored 19 points and Emil Purisic had 15 points and eight rebounds in the important home win.

The Cardinals, who are coached by Baruch basketball alumni Carl Emengo, were led by Aidony Nivar with 23 points.

Before the game, the team and coaches honored eight players playing in their final regular-season home game.
