Men's Volleyball Loses Highly Competitive Match (3-1) to #2 Stevens

The men's volleyball team put up a strong effort against the defending NCAA Division III Champions the Ducks from the Stevens Institute of Technology, but fell in a tough match in four sets in their home opener.

The Ducks, currently ranked No. 2 in the national NCAA Division III rankings, took the first set 25-20 hitting a solid .611.

The two sides battled in the second with the set going the extra distance but the Ducks broke open a 28-28 tie with a kill and ace to win 30-28 for a 2-0 lead.

The Bearcats never lost their composure and came back even stronger in the third set winning convincingly 25-17 behind a .630 hitting percentage.

Unfortunately, they started slow in the fourth set falling behind 9-3, and couldn't rally to tie the match losing in the end 25-12.

Peter Gavroff (16 kills) and Jack Centeno (13 kills) led the Bearcat attack this evening, while Ryan Oommen tied his career-high with 41 assists and now has 78 total in his last two matches.

Jackson Newcomb had six digs, five kills, and three aces. Naoki Tani finished with six digs.  

The Ducks from Hoboken, New Jersey hit .459 this evening and were led by Koby Sherman with 11 kills (.600).

The Bearcats' home schedule continues on Thursday with another nationally-ranked opponent as they welcome city neighbor No. 8-ranked NYU to the ARC Arena for a 7:00 pm start.
