The softball team played their first games of the CUNYAC schedule with a road doubleheader against John Jay College.
The Bearcats scored three runs in each game of the doubleheader but fell by the competitive scores of 6-3 and 7-3.
In the first game, the Bearcats were quickly on the scoreboard during their first at-bat.
Julia Cuttone doubled,
Carly Quint walked, and two-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week
Leilani Jimenez singled to load the bases with two outs.
Milagros Arias then smacked an RBI single and Quint came around to score on a wild pitch for an early 2-0 lead.
The Bloodhounds, who hosted their home doubleheader at Kean University in New Jersey (about 15 minutes from Newark Aiport), scored a run in each of the first two innings and smacked two homers in the third inning to jump ahead 5-1.
The Bearcats cut the score to 5-2 in the top of the fourth on an RBI ground out by
Kaitlyn Belfield that scored Arias. John Jay added a run in the fifth for the result that ended as 6-3.
Arias was tops batting 2-for-3 with a double. Malee Gallaspy led the Bloodhounds batting 3-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.
In the second game, the Bearcats started strong again with two runs in the top of the first.
Mia Faddah smacked a two-run double to score
Megan Bell and Cuttone who had each reached base with a single.
The Bloodhounds quickly tied the game in the bottom half of the first and then added five runs in the second inning for a 7-2 lead.
The Bearcats cut the deficit to 7-3 on an RBI single by Arias to score Cuttone in the top of the third.
The game stayed quiet the rest of the way to finish 7-3.
Cuttone and Faddah finished with two hits each. Cuttone also scored two runs. Jailene Santiago led three Bloodhounds players with two hits each.
