Compliance

Page Updated July 7, 2023

Baruch College is a member of the NCAA Division III, and strictly follows all rules and regulations for an institution that participates on the intercollegiate level.

If you have any intention of playing for a Baruch athletic team, you must complete ALL eligibility paperwork and trainings which will be distributed in the summer or prior to each team’s pre-season.

You must report ALL colleges you have transferred from to determine how many semesters of eligibility you have remaining to play at Baruch College.

You CAN NOT participate in any athletic contest until you have been determined eligible and placed on the Registrar-certified roster by the Assistant Athletic Director for Academics, Compliance and Eligibility.

How do I become a varsity athlete?

Here are the requirements:

1. You must be a full-time student at
Baruch College. A full-time student is an undergraduate enrolled in 12 or more credit hours.

2. You must have a 2.0 cumulative grade point average or higher.

3. NCAA Division III rules state you have four years of eligibility for each sport you participate in. You must complete those four years of eligibility within your first 10 semesters of being a full-time college student.

4. Graduate Students are only eligible if you meet both requirements below:
a. You are enrolled full time in your graduate program.
b. You have not completed 10 semesters of full-time study.

Athletic eligibility gets reviewed at the start of each playing season. Random checks are done on student-athletes to ensure that full-time status and GPA minimums are maintained. Any student-athlete intending to drop a class during their playing and practice season MUST speak to their coach and to the Assistant Athletic Director for ACE before taking any action.

If you do not meet the above requirements for eligibility, you must take corrective action in order to regain your eligibility. Make use of the resources available to you here at Baruch College. Tutors can be set up through the Athletic Department by contacting Carrie Thomas (646-312-5053)  or the Student Academic Consulting Center (S.A.C.C.).

If you have any questions regarding eligibility or other NCAA regulations, please see Carrie Thomas (646-312-5053) in the Vertical Campus- Level B1, Room 103.
