How do I get a physical?

You may receive a physical from your own personal physician or any Medical Doctor (MD, DO) but they must sign and stamp the Baruch College Annual Physical Form from the Sportsware Athlete Profile. The Student Health Center offers free physicals to all enrolled Baruch College students. You must schedule an appointment ahead of time in order to receive a physical. DO NOT WAIT TIL THE LAST MINUTE!

If you plan to use the Student Health Center, you must fill out the medical forms BEFORE your appointment and take it with you.

Do I need health insurance?

No, you are not required to have personal health insurance to be eligible to become a Baruch College Student-Athlete. However, it is strongly recommended to have at least accident insurance that covers intercollegiate athletic injuries in order to keep out of pocket medical costs low.

What insurance does Baruch College Athletic provide?

All eligible Baruch College Student-Athletes who participate on a varsity intercollegiate team are covered under a Sports Accident Insurance Policy issued to the college. This is a Secondary Insurance plan for athletic related injuries that occur during supervised practices and games. Pre-existing conditions, illnesses or sickness not directly related to an athletic injury, or injuries outside of supervised and official practices are not covered.

What does it cost me?

You are responsible for premiums and deductibles of your primary insurance and Baruch College’s Insurance will be implemented as a secondary for excess cost.

If you do not have primary health insurance, you may be held responsible for up to $500.00 as a part of the deductible per injury if the school’s insurance is implemented.

Where can I get health insurance?

Visit the Baruch College Student Affairs Health Service Page to find information on free or low cost Health Plan options for students.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a new federal law that requires all individuals to have health insurance by January 1, 2014.

Individuals who do not enroll in a health insurance plan by January will pay a penalty when filing for taxes (unless you can claim an exemption).
